You bet! Gambling education materials for young people for 11-16 year olds
You bet! is aimed at 11-16 year olds in more formal educational settings, such as secondary schools and Pupil Referral Units.
There are:
10 lessons for 11-14 year olds on:
what is understood by the term gambling, what makes someone happy, winners and losers, attitudes towards gambling, implications on connecting to pop-ups, communication skills, lottery funding, local support, strategies for managing emotions and reflection
8 lessons for 14-16 year olds on:
issues of risk, increase knowledge and understanding, raise awareness of problems and consider ways to gamble safely, budgeting skills, impact on others, how the media deal with news, effects of a casino in the locality and increase a students understanding of gambling related issues and problem gambling
28 photocopiable handouts for use with students to support the lessons
3 background papers for professionals, including gambling by young people and links to the curriculum
appendices containing further information for young people and professionals
a photocopiable parents’/carers’ sheets on help for young problem gamblers
a CD Rom containing information about gambling and all the handouts.
